6 Reasons to Add Organic Jaggery to your Diet
Rich in vitamins and minerals, jaggery is one of the healthiest sugar substitutes. Give a quick read to the blog and know why you need to incorporate organic jaggery into your diet.
Winning the crown of being the healthiest sugar substitute in the world, gur or jaggery is the best way to satiate your sweet cravings. Also, known as non-centrifugal cane sugar, it is an unrefined natural sugar consumed mainly in Asia, parts of America and Africa. Due to its molasses content, jaggery tastes better, richer and is more nutritious than regular refined white sugar.
The ‘healthy sugar substitute’ is made from both sugarcane and palm. 70% of the world’s jaggery is produced alone in India. Gur has been used in Ayurvedic medicines by the practitioners for more than 3000 years.
How is it made?
Our organic production of jaggery involves the traditional methods of pressing and distilling palm and cane juice.
- Extraction: The organic sweet juice or sap is extracted from the canes and palms.
- Clarification: The juice is allowed to stand in large containers. The sediments settle to the bottom and the liquid is strained and the clear liquid is obtained.
- Concentration: The clear juice is then poured in a large, flat-bottomed pan and boiled.
Under the boiling process, the impurities are skimmed off the top, as it is continuously stirred, leaving a yellow syrup behind.
